Caterers: Duo Events

Friday, February 22nd, 2008

Duo Events opened last year and was created by two chefs, Ashley Transki and Brian Congdon both of whom worked for the Sage and Onion. They specialize in creating menus that are inspired by, and made from, locally grown, organic food. Large, buffet-type events are not their specialty. Rather, more intimate, multi-course, plated dinners with beautiful presentation are their strength. If you’re a foodie looking for someone to present something new for your next event try Duo.

Caterers: Lorraine Lim Catering

Thursday, February 14th, 2008

Founded in 1991 Lorraine Lim Catering is a great catering company that provides outstanding food, service and attention to detail. Glenn, Lorraine’s husband, handles the event planning and running the front of the house, while Lorraine focuses on the food. The result is flawless service and yummy food. I’m actually using them for my own wedding which is about 6 weeks away and I can’t wait. Their tri-tip and ahi tuna tartar are to die for!

The Color of Love

Thursday, February 14th, 2008

Happy Valentine’s day everyone! I thought it would be appropriate to share one of my favorite tabletops by Rebecca Thuss. The table is set with a runner of deep red with various types of roses and tulips arranged in red silk containers. The artful play with texture and height along with the simplicity of the place settings allows the dramatic nature of red to be the focus. Enjoy!

Spotlight: Julie Morgan

Tuesday, February 12th, 2008

Yesterday I had my makeup run through for my own wedding day (7 weeks and counting!) and Julie Morgan did a fantastic job. She gave me a smoky eye that was subtle and really brought out my eye color. My fiance didn’t even realize I was wearing makeup! No matter who you end up booking, be sure to do a run through. I met with another makeup artist prior to Julie and it was just plain awful. I’m so glad I found someone who made me look like myself (but better).

Location: Santa Barbara Historical Museum

Friday, February 8th, 2008

On the corner of De la Guerra and Santa Barbara streets is the charming Santa Barbara Historical Museum. An entirely outdoor location it features two lovely courtyards with bubbling fountains surrounded by an adobe cloister. The feel is very Santa Barbara-esque, relaxed, warm and inviting which would be perfect for a destination wedding.

A Soolip Wedding

Wednesday, February 6th, 2008

For all you Southern California brides, A Soolip Wedding has been scheduled for March 30th at Vibiana in downtown Los Angeles. The location is the former archdioceses cathedral which has been completely restored and is now available for private events. Sadly, I’m getting married the day before and can’t make it this year. I attended last year and there were a ton of beautiful tabletops, food, champagne, and great guests speakers like Jo Gartin of Love, Luck & Angels. If any readers would like to send in a recap I would be greatful!

Location: Orella Ranch

Saturday, February 2nd, 2008

About 15 miles north of Santa Barbara is a private ranch called Orella. It has been owned by the same family for the last 8 generations and it is truly a gorgeous, rustic location. Ceremonies take place at either Sky Island or the Lone Oak.
