Goodbye Domino

Friday, January 30th, 2009

As many of you have heard by now, Domino magazine is officially closing. Sadness. Here’s the farewell note from the editors:

dear readers
It is with very heavy hearts that we say farewell. Over the last 4 years, in 28 issues, we have done our best to create a great magazine. We started with a real idea—that style is for everyone—and tried to carry it out with stories that provide inspiration and empower you to act on it. From your tremendous response, we know that we were onto something. In this tough economy, however, we simply weren’t able to get the advertising support we needed.

As domino evolved, we never lost sight of our original democratic premise. Looking back at the manifesto we published in the premiere issue, the first tenet of domino is still the truest: Home should make you happy. We hope we have played a part in making this come true for you.

Love,

All the editors of domino

If you have my deco files, the site will be live for a few more weeks so you can retrieve all your images.

Modern Twist

Thursday, January 29th, 2009

I’m in love with these delicate tabletop accessories by modern-twist.

Who knew a doile could be so modern and pretty?

These coasters make me very happy.

A little napkin ring for a mod element.

That happens to come in a plethora of colors.

And perhaps the chicest place mat I’ve ever seen. Swoon.

Balloons

Wednesday, January 28th, 2009

Balloons make me happy. And used the right way, could be the perfect accent to a whimsical wedding (did I mention how economical they are?!?).

Yes this is a balloon canopy, can you imagine getting married under this floaty-ness?

A field of balloons…

And, of course, these fabulous engagement photos which seem to have found their way onto every blog. Check out the full set here.

Inspiration Board #8: Farm Elegance Wedding

I love this tabletop photo by James Carrier (upper right corner), featuring simple linen textures and sweet ranunculus. I picture this wedding taking place under magnolia trees at the family farm.

Moroccan Flair

Thursday, January 22nd, 2009

I love the color and textures of Morocco.

Over-sized lanterns, a timeless decor element.

Colorful ambiance and tasty drinks are always in style.

Moroccan tea in beautiful glassware, so effortless pretty.

I love how the light comes through these intricately carved screens. Its the perfect way to bring the outside in and the inside out.

Inspiration Board #7: At the Fair

Tuesday, January 20th, 2009

This board was inspired by ferris wheel photo by Mel Barlow. I picture this wedding taking place in the summer (maybe over 4th of July Weekend) and held in a parent’s backyard. The focus would be less on the decor and more on the fabulous fair-inspired food.

Picnic Time

Thursday, January 15th, 2009

This week the weather has been insanely gorgeous (75 degrees in January, oh Santa Barbara how you spoil me!) and its definitely time to pack a basket and find a beautiful spot for a picnic.

Here looks good…

A little sandwich wrapped in colorful paper, yes please.

A refreshing drink, thank you.

And please, bring your puppy!

P.S. You could easily apply this idea to a small intimate day time wedding…
