The Beauty of Statues

Wednesday, February 8th, 2012

As an art history major, I always loved the grace and beauty of classic statues…

Now that I design weddings, I love the idea of using them in a wedding ceremony decor or as an extra touch during cocktail hour…

I think they look best in a garden setting, but an elegant ballroom with great architectural detail could work too… Would you consider using statues for decor?

Tea in The Orchard

Monday, January 9th, 2012

One of my favorite places in the world, is a little orchard that has been serving tea and scones to Cambridge students since 1897…

We sat under the trees eating scones with clotted cream and jam…  And the words by Rupert Brooke, who wrote about this idyllic spot, still hang in the air, “And is there honey still for tea?” (The Old Vicarage, Granchester).

Inspiration Board #56: A Secret Garden

Monday, November 14th, 2011

I love the idea of a wedding in a secret garden… Wrought iron chairs, aged terra cotta pots, lots of ivy, garden roses, and candlelight… Simply lovely and so very romantic!

Real Wedding: Glamorous Midsummer Night’s Dream II

Thursday, June 16th, 2011

marilyntony_058

For the reception, La Tavola’s sequin New York linens added some serious glamour to the tables. The bride and groom sat at Town & Country’s fun domed Montecito love seat.

marilyntony_144

For table decor, a mix of birdcages filled with moss and candles, alternated with clusters of lanterns and tons of flowers. For the table numbers, wood plaques were painted a coppery gold and a custom decal was applied.

marilyntony_126

Tucked into the flowers little birdies perched (the bride loved birds).

marilyntony_266

Around the menu a sequin belly band added even more sparkle.

marilyntony_031

For the cake, we used the groom’s parent’s cake topped. It was such an adorable heirloom touch.

marilyntony_147

And then for the groom’s cake, his favorite guitar was recreated.

Special thanks to all the vendors who helped create this fabulous event!

Real Wedding: Glamorous Midsummer Night’s Dream

Wednesday, June 15th, 2011

marilyntony_038

For this wedding I incorporated the bride’s favorite colors and the play her sister used to read her as a child, A Midummer Night’s Dream.

marilyntony_243

For her bouquet, I used Magnolia leaves (from her home state of Missippippi), ranunculus, peonies, lavender, lilac, hudranga, and a touch of lily of the valley.

marilyntony_252

Pink ranunculus with lavender and geranium were pined on the groomsmen.

marilyntony_011

The twin flower girls carried copper buckets filled with lavender rose petals and gardenias in their hair.

marilyntony_224

For the pre-ceremony welcome drinks, I found this cool wrought iron piece that looks like a gothic window. I love the chippy paint and the color!

marilyntony_225

The ceremony aisle was lined with rose petals and sherperd’s hooks filled with flowers. I loved the Versaille chairs we used, such a nice change from the usual chivari chair.

marilyntony_017

For the ceremony arbor, I used magnolia leaves, lilac, hydranga and lavendar roses. I wanted to make the lilac drip down similar to wisteria which was another of the bride’s favorite things.

Up next.. the reception!

Real Wedding: Alisa + Tim, Part One

alisatim_010

I had so much fun doing this Americana themed Fourth of July Wedding. I used loads of red gingham ribbon for decor, along with pops of blue, white and yellow. It was such a cheery palette and perfect for a summer wedding.

alisatim_011

For Alisa’s bouquet she knew she wanted red, but she also wanted daisys for sure. So I mixed peonies, dahlias, daisys and blue thistle for her all american look. Around the base, I wrapped her grandmother’s locket.

gettingready_003

For the bridesmaids bouquets, I used buttons Alisa made from left over fabric from her table linens/quilting squares.

alisatim_183

When I met with her she brought a bunch and wasn’t certain how to incorporate them, so I suggested using them on the bouquets/bouts and seating cards.

alisatim_036

For the groomsmen I made boutonnieres that were all slightly different from each other. This one is nigella wrapped in burlap with a light blue button. Next up the ceremony and more details… Photos by the darling Kirsten Ellis of Beaux Arts Photographie.

Inspiration Board #53: Moody Pink & Lace

Monday, March 28th, 2011

pink&lace

Pink and lace is so feminine a combination, I love the idea off balancing the look with a location that has a bit of a dark and moody side. A forest or a long table setup in a grove of trees would be oh so pretty…

Purple Flowers

purple_gren_doom_ellensilverman

I’m not usually a purple fan, but I do love these unique flowers in this terranium.

purple_tea_gemmacomas

I love this tea cup as a container! I love the muscari and veronica in here and how they add a little bit of unkemptness and movement to the arrangement.

Pretty Garden & Floral Touches

Monday, May 17th, 2010

garden_vanity_everard

I love a garden in full bloom, and with spring in full effect, I thought some pretty garden inspiration would be just the thing for a Monday.

garden_wall_cindydiprima

I am in so in love with this garden wall. It would be so pretty as a back drop for ceremony or cocktail hour. The little turquoise finials are darling too.

floral_cake_jotyler

In general, I’m not a big fan of  bird and floral patterns, but this cake just works for me. I love the simple shape with the rounded off corners, and the sweet touch of pale green ribbon.

rose_garden_crystal_china_katefrench

The layering of floral patterns and fine crystal is just so pretty and delicate. With the short water tumblers and the hemstitch linen, I can totally picture this wedding happening in the family garden.

Springtime Entertaining

Monday, March 8th, 2010

purple_terracotta_girl_annaskoog

Its finally feels like spring is here! My cherry tree is blooming, the daffodils are out, and all I want to do is host a fun, springtime, brunch.

garden_lady_annaskoog

We could play lawn bowling and sport our cutest wellies.

garden_table_shabby_chic_atlantabartlett

Then I’d set the table with a simple taupe runner on an old beat up white table. I’d serve a menu of quiches along with a platter of fantastic cheese. I’d use loads of potted plants for decor (economical and a great hostess gift) and serve champagne. Aww, springtime…

Inspiration Board #45: Colorful Garden Soiree

Monday, March 1st, 2010

playful_garden

This inspiration board was inspired by the girl sitting by the window. I love the flowers in her hair, the open window, and I can totally picture her as a carefree relaxed bride. The wedding would feature a garden fresh menu, tons of sweets, flower girls in marabou skirts, and bunches of fresh tulips will decorate the tables.

lavendar_green_bouquet_ellensilverman

Oh my, oh my! I’m so busy this week with a big project being completed (more on that later), parent’s visiting, and finalizing details and design for an upcoming wedding that I need to take  a mini-hiatus. I’ll be back next week!
