An Oldie: Inspiration Board #33: Red & Blue Berries

Monday, May 24th, 2010

Since  I’m playing mad catch up today and prepping for a week of meetings. I thought I’d share an inspiration board that some of my new readers may have missed. This board was inspired by berries, but it could easily be translated to a Fourth of July Wedding. And now onto the post:

red_blue_wedding

I love summer berries and I think the deep reds and blues are the perfect inspiration for a late summer wedding. I picture this wedding taking place at a family farm, the bride would wear a bold red dress, and guests would be treated to refreshing berry drinks.

Inspiration Board #49: Springtime Blues & Yellows

blue&yellow

Continuing my obsession with all things spring, I designed this board based on the photo in the lower left corner by Polly Wreford. I love the blue and white pattern dress, the casual bouquet of daffodils, and the blue gingham ribbon. I picture this wedding taking place at a family friend’s home, homemade lemonade would serve as favors, and a yummy lemon granita would add be a tasty palate cleaner in between courses of gourmet comfort foods. Stunning acacia and ranunculus would serve as centerpieces and the couple would make their getaway in an old blue bug.

Inspiration Board #48: Strawberry Fields

Monday, April 26th, 2010

I love the idea of using strawberries to anchor the event design for a wedding. I mean who doesn’t like strawberries? I picture this wedding taking place at a charming B & B. The wedding would be small and intimate and there would be loads of bubbly and delicious strawberries to snack on. Local, organic food would make up the rest of the menu and be served picnic style, all on a warm spring day.

Inspiration Board #47: A Cup of Tea

Monday, April 19th, 2010

cupoftea

I love all thing English, and a good cup of tea being very high up on the list (after of course, a proper pint). I was inspired by the photo  of the chair with the tea cup (styling by Portland Mitchell). I love the layers of brocade (so English) and the portrait above is so darn quaint. I picture this wedding with the ladies decked in all their finery, hats punctuated with feathers, delicate dresses, and lady like gloves. The wedding would take place in the morning and a wedding luncheon would follow with tea and yummy treats for all the guests. The color scheme would features layers of pink with dashes of blue and gold for contrast.

Inspiration Board #46: Pink & Green, and fun all over

I love a wedding that doesn’t take itself too seriously and leaves plenty of room for fun and whimsy. The mood for this board was inspired by the lady in the bottom row (photo by Anna Kern).  I love the gingham ribbon in her hair! I picture this wedding with lots of fun (and cheap ideas) using old food tins to hold centerpieces, little vignettes of ribbon and thread for the guest book tables, and of course, one pair of flirtatious pink heels.

Inspiration Board #45: Colorful Garden Soiree

Monday, March 1st, 2010

playful_garden

This inspiration board was inspired by the girl sitting by the window. I love the flowers in her hair, the open window, and I can totally picture her as a carefree relaxed bride. The wedding would feature a garden fresh menu, tons of sweets, flower girls in marabou skirts, and bunches of fresh tulips will decorate the tables.

Inspiration Board #44: In the Orchard

Monday, February 15th, 2010

orchard_wedding

I love the apple orchards in England, and so for this inspiration board I designed a simple, chic wedding. The bride would wear wellies and her hair down, her neighbors would play music while sitting on apple crates during the ceremony. Guests would bring baskets full of food and drink for the reception. And the table for reception would be decorated with the apples of the orchard.

Inspiration Board #43: Shades of Purple

Monday, February 1st, 2010

softpurple_gold_wedding

For this inspiration board, I used shades of purple, for light lavender to plum, with touches of pink for contrast. I picture this wedding taking place in the springtime, a dachshund would serve as ring bearer and walk with a pretty flower girl. The tables would be dressed in a lavender linen with shades of purple for the flowers to create a cohesive look.

I don’t know about you, but the many days of gray skies and rainy weather has me dreaming of springtime… I love this little bundle of mason jars each with a unique bloom and tied up with ribbon.  Its so sweet and dainty.

Inspiration Board #42: Blue & Yellow Pottery

I’ve been inspired by this image of thread for weeks (photo by Anna Williams). I love the colors, aqua, blue, mint and mustard, and I thought it would make a gorgeous palette for a wedding held in Morocco. Beautiful colored pots in shades of blue, and yellow would decorate the tables. Colorful drinks would greet guests before the ceremony and dinner would be served in a tagine.

Inspiration Board #41: Pink Dahlias

Monday, January 11th, 2010

spoolsoftread_pink_dashawright

The inspiration for this board was this beautiful shot of spools of thread by Dasha Wright. I love the shades of light and dark pink next to each other. I picture this wedding taking place in the peak of summer, cold strawberry beverages would be served to guests and a refreshing pink sorbet would be the perfect palate cleanser after a BBQ themed dinner. Dahlias in shades of dark and light pink would grace the tables and would add bit of modern touch with their structured blooms.

Inspiration Board #40: Glamorous, Pink & Mint Wedding

40s_tableau_jimfranco

Happy 2010 everyone! To kick things off, I though a suitably glamorous board would do the trick. For inspiration I used this lovely vignette above. Its so glamorous, chic and the feather caplet is so amazing, I just had to do an inspiration board based on it. I picture this wedding taking place at an elegant and historic venue. The color palette would have touches of mint, pink and metallic would pop against a creamy white. The bride would be uber fashion conscious with a couture gown and the groom would wear tails. Guests, would be served champagne cocktails and sport fabulous hats and gloves.

Inspiration Board #38: Red & White Southern Charm Wedding

Monday, November 30th, 2009

red_white_plantation_wedding

I love the idea of a chic red and white wedding with Southern charm. I picture this wedding taking place at an old plantation, where sweet tea would be served as a welcome drink and fans would be handed out to guests to cool themselves. I would mix red and white checks and stripes on the tables for a charming homey look. Rocking chairs would be setup on the porch for guests to enjoy during cocktail hour. Heirloom family love letters would be put on display next to the guest book. Apple pie and red velvet cake would be served for dessert. And, of course, the bride would wear boots.

Mary & Josh: Inspiration Board

M&J_inspirationboard_2.0

The couple wanted a very funky, retro inspired party, rather than a traditional wedding reception. Seating, would be small cocktail tables and dinner would be four food stations served on small plates. They knew off the bat that they wanted their photos taken on their vespas and that large light bulb strands would be strung overhead. They also knew they wanted paisley featured throughout the design. Finding the right paisley proved to the toughest part of the design. I found one option that would work, but the fabric company had stopped making that design. I even looked in New York when I was there for the B-List and had no luck finding the right paisley. Finally, in May I went once again to Michael Levine’s in downtown Los Angeles and found the perfect paisley.

paisley

The paisley incorporated their colors, cobalt blue and goldenrod yellow, and had little funky 60’s style flowers throughout the pattern. I put in my order for 30 yards of fabric and had the fabric shipped to my linen vendor to make runners for the cocktail tables, cake table, and food stations. I took a swatch of the  paisley to the cake vendor, Rosebuds, and they were able to pipe the pattern onto their cake. I also sent the fabric to the florist, Collage, so she could use it as a reference for the paisley pattern of rose petals I wanted down the aisle. Once the fabric was found the rest of the details came almost immediately.

Inspiration Board #37: Fall Wedding

fall_wedding

I love fall, and I love the idea of using the elements of the season, the changing leaves, gourds, and pumpkins, as the inspiration for decor for a wedding. I picture this wedding taking place in a lodge with a large fire place. Warm cider would be served as a pre-ceremony drink and the menu would feature butternut squash soup as a starter course.
