Anthropologie Wedding- The Cake

Wednesday, March 17th, 2010

©kirstenellis051

For the cake design I really wanted a bottom tier that was twice as tall as the top tier. I love the proportion of April Reed’s cake and that was definitely an inspiration to me.

©kirstenellis002

The cake was created by Robyn Loves Cake and she is an expert at sugar flowers. Can you believe this sugar flower peony?

©kirstenellis049

The pattern of cut fondant was taken from the bottom of Stow House. Its a very Victorian detail on the house and I loved that little bit of texture on the bottom of the cake.

cake_design_anthropologyThis is the sketch I gave to Robyn. I debated using a dahlia versus a peony, and ended up going with the peony. But as you can see Robyn executed the sketch to a T!

Anthropologie Wedding- The Details

©kirstenellis062

I love vintage suitcases and I thought holding fans would be so cute.

©kirstenellis058

I tied grosgrain ribbons in two colors to the base of the fans to add some color.

©kirstenellis139

For the flower girls I found these copper candles holders that were the perfect scale for their baskets.

©kirstenellis111

I tied each side with grosgrain ribbon and filled them with baby’s breath.

©kirstenellis136

The flower girls were too cute!

©kirstenellis065

For favors, Santa Barbara Preserves made rose jelly and put these in adorable mini canning jars.

©kirstenellis068

We used the same dashed pattern on the napkin as a border for the label. Santa Barbara Preserves custom made rose jelly, but she can make any flavor (her habanero raspberry jam is so good!)

Anthropologie Wedding- The Table

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

©kirstenellis007

For the dining table I set it up under a large juniper tree. I picked out the linens and napkins from Michael Levine’s and had them custom made for the table.

©kirstenellis083

For the decor I love the idea of mixing traditional taper holders and putting them in glass cylinders. The look is modern, and practical, since  you’re taper candles would blow out otherwise.

©kirstenellis012

For flowers I used pink and white ranunuculus, blue thistle, berzilla balls, muscari, peonies, queen anne’s lace.

©kirstenellis078

All the containers were from Anthropologie except for the pink depression glasses (reused from the Valentine’s table I did for the City Sage), the candles holders (Jamali Gardens) and the glass cylinders were bought in downtown LA.

©kirstenellis008

I mixed Town & Country’s gorgeous aqua chargers with their Provencal line for the table setting.

©kirstenellis089

On top, I made a flowers from copper wire and tucked in the menu card envelope which had a letter pressed pattern that matched the napkins.

Anthropologie Wedding- Ceremony

Monday, March 15th, 2010

©kirstenellis031

The inspiration for the ceremony was those paper chains we all made in kindergarten. Instead of paper, I used grosgrain ribbon which has a beautiful subtle sheen to it that I just love.

©kirstenellis260

Cynthia and I made about 540 loops to achieve the effect I was going for.

©kirstenellis014

I thought the effect was so pretty and magical!

Anthropologie Wedding- The Groom

Monday, March 15th, 2010

©kirstenellis172

For the groom, I choose a light tan suit from Mission Tuxedo. A simple blue tie completed his look.

©kirstenellis016

For his boutonniere, I used a  white ranunculus with three muscari as an accent and all wrapped in a light blue ribbon.

Anthropologie Wedding- The Bride

Monday, March 15th, 2010

©kirstenellis250

I borrowed a dress from Alina Pizzano for my bride. It was a light, light, pink with a brocade texture to the fabric. I love the cut, with its sweet heart neckline and simple train.

©kirstenellis098

For styling, I added a light blue grosgrain ribbon to the waist of the dress.

©kirstenellis234

For her bouquet I used white ranunculus, paper whites, muscari, berzilla balls, and queen anne’s lace.

©kirstenellis018

In her hair, a simple piece of aqua netting was tied into a headband.

©kirstenellis151

I found this killer vintage necklace in Paso Robles after I finished a site visit with one of my brides. I love the slightly art deco feel it has and the aqua color is to die for!

Inspiration Board #42: Blue & Yellow Pottery

Monday, January 25th, 2010

tread_knitting_annawilliams

I’ve been inspired by this image of thread for weeks (photo by Anna Williams). I love the colors, aqua, blue, mint and mustard, and I thought it would make a gorgeous palette for a wedding held in Morocco. Beautiful colored pots in shades of blue, and yellow would decorate the tables. Colorful drinks would greet guests before the ceremony and dinner would be served in a tagine.

Books + Mugs (or my rainy day plans)

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

On this particularly gray day in Santa Barbara (its raining like crazy here, there’s even a water spout warning), I need some rich, saturated color, preferable in the form of a good, old-fashioned hard cover book.

books_ingridrasmussen

They’re all  so pretty, I wish they were on my bookshelf right now.

book_mugs_littleparchment

And to go with them, how adorable are the mugs? I want to collect them all!

January: Pretty Posey

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010

kellyoshiro_bouquet_january5

Introducing… Pretty Posey! Every month, on the second Wednesday, I’ll be posting a bouquet I created. I have a passion for flowers and hopefully I’ll provide some inspiration for my readers along the way. Enjoy!

kellyoshiro_bouquet_january2

For the color palette, I chose  a soft blue with a purplish tone, against a background of white and hints of coppery green. I used Muscari and Blue Thistle because they have a similar shape, but completely different textures.

kellyoshiro_bouquet_january

I used Paperwhites (love the tiny delicate blossoms) and Hellebourus for the white tones.

kellyoshiro_bouquet_january3

To complete the look, I used Berzilia Baubles to add a bit of texture, I love their slightly coppery color.

kellyoshiro_bouquet_january4

And of course, Ms. Mira, supervised the photo shoot.

Photos, styling, and bouquet by me.

Iacoli & Mcallister Cake Stands

Wednesday, January 6th, 2010

iacolinmcallister1

How perfectly modern and chic are these colorful cake stands? By Iacoli & Mcallister, they come in variety of shapes, sizes, and colors.

iacolinmcallister2

I’m particularly enamored with this cake stand that looks like a candle holder. The bright red lacquer finish keeps the look modern.

iacolinmcallister

And anything aqua these days, I’m totally obsessed with. I would love to use these for a bright, playful wedding. You can see more of the cake stands right here.

I’m loving these oversized, moody flowers by Emersonmade. These would work any day or as an accent to a wedding or bridesmaids dress.

ermersonmade

And these are the cutest little boutonnieres I’ve seen in a  while.

You can even decorate your packages with them!
