70′s by Day

Monday, January 30th, 2012

I’ve been researching fashion on the 70′s a for a little project I’m working on this week… So far I’m loving the flowy hair, knits and rich amber hues…

Chunky belts, peasant skits and floppy hats… 70′s style had such a relaxed, but elegant look. What’s inspiring you this week?

Ink & Wit Calender

Wednesday, November 30th, 2011

I’m a big fan of Tara’s work over at Ink & Wit. Every year she puts out the most adorable wall calender and every year I buy one.

I love this detail shoot of a modern chair and bowls. There’s always something so peaceful and happy about her designs.

A bear and a balloon? Too sweet. You can see more of Tara’s work right here and buy the calender right here.

Ms. Megan is a bit under the weather, so I’m filling in today. I recently bought a bunch of Matte Stephen prints and I’m so in love. This one hangs above my bed. Gotta love an Owl rocking a pipe, bow tie, and umbrella!

This print is perfectly on theme for this week. Its been pouring here!

matte_stephens_familyportrait

I may have to get this one soon. A cat family portrait is just too silly and awesome. You can see more Matte’s work right here.

Inspiration Board #52: Thanksgiving Feast

Monday, November 22nd, 2010

thanksgiving

For a thanksgiving feast, I would use tons of gourds mixed with citrus to create the centerpiece of the table. An old farmhouse would host the dinner and loads of pie would finish off the meal!

Inspiration Board #50: Wood Tones & White

Monday, October 25th, 2010

white&wood

So its been a little while since the last inspiration board (ok, a long while, last May to be exact). So for this board, I wanted to pair the warmness of wood tones with a timeless white palette. I picture this wedding at a cozy bed and breakfast, where the owners dog roams the property freely, old troughs are re-purposed and used as floral containers, and bunches of baby breath add airiness to the decor.

Lately, I’ve been drawn to beautiful photos of spools of thread. Maybe its the soft sheen of the thread or all the luscious colors, but its definitely been on my mind!

Down a Country Lane

girl_english_countryside_katepowers

I just got the word that my sister is going to England at the end of September and I’m so jealous!

lady_countryside_chrisblott

I absolutely adore England and a good countryside walk is my absolute favorite thing to do.

forest_annakern

When I lived in Cambridge, I would take long walks by the Cam to Grantchester where I’d have a proper cup of tea and a buttery scone in a famous old apple orchard.

Here’s hoping I get a chance to visit her…

I know its only Thursday, but I’m so excited for a non-working weekend that I’m already plotting an al fresco dinner party.

Doesn’t this salad look so refreshing? And the styling, with the rumpled linen napkin and blue bowl, is perfection. Photo by the awesome Mikkel Vang.

anthropologie_terrain

About a year ago, I heard Anthropologie was opening a test store, Terrain, which would feature garden and outdoor products. The store itself if gorgeous and even better, you can have your wedding there. But have you checked out their online store? From awesome iron plant stands and darling terrariums that you could use for seating cards display, as part of a centerpieces,  really the styling opportunities are endless. And can we talk about the awesome potter’s work bench? Distressed turquoise color? Check! Super functional? Check! Storage? Check. I can go on, but go check it out for yourself right here.
