Laying Around

Wednesday, August 25th, 2010

red_dress_daisy_erickamcconnell

Summer is finally upon us (seriously, 80 degree weather just arrived) and all I want to do is pack a picnic, lay on some soft grass, and read a good book.

She’s got the right idea…

…and she does too. Here’s hoping the weather sticks around this weekend when I’ll be able to leave the office and enjoy. Happy Wednesday!

Outdoor Spaces + Pink

Monday, August 23rd, 2010

umbrella_picnic_jamesgardiner_pink_era

My obsession with hot pink continues particularly in outdoor spaces. Its such an unexpected color outside and I love the contrast with green foliage. Also, this may be the most adorable umbrella, ever.

picnic_aqua_pollyeltes-era

Stunning outdoor space with hot pink lanterns? Um, yes. I’ll take some tea and cookies right about here.

But the piece de résistance? A hot pink, heavy, wood, door leading to your garden. Done and done.

A Place to lay your Shoes

greigedesign_viatig_viaatlantamag

Everyday I struggle with my insanely small closet and where exactly I’m suppose to put all my pretty shoes. I love this idea above of creating a wall of shelves tucked behind linen drapes to store all my pretties.

Wall shoe storage_purplearea_livingetc

Though this solution might work better for me– colored molding to hold all your pumps- so darn pretty and it doubles as artwork too.

Though if I had the space, I’d be all over a vintage armour like this.

Or this one too, sigh.

Summer Light

Its been so very gloomy in Santa Barbara and I’m dying for a glimpse of summer light.

I would wear my best floppy hat and take a drive…

To the beach with my diana camera in tow. Here’s hoping the gloom goes away this weekend, I need a break from work and some serious beach-lounging-doing-absolutely-nothing time.

The soft pastel colors…

In contrast to graphic patterns and black elements in the model’s clothes is pure perfection.

An Oldie: Inspiration Board #33: Red & Blue Berries

Monday, May 24th, 2010

Since  I’m playing mad catch up today and prepping for a week of meetings. I thought I’d share an inspiration board that some of my new readers may have missed. This board was inspired by berries, but it could easily be translated to a Fourth of July Wedding. And now onto the post:

red_blue_wedding

I love summer berries and I think the deep reds and blues are the perfect inspiration for a late summer wedding. I picture this wedding taking place at a family farm, the bride would wear a bold red dress, and guests would be treated to refreshing berry drinks.

Jose&MariaBarrera_beadbibnecklace

I know what you’re thinking-this gorgeous Jose & Maria Barrera necklace is a little more bold in color that what I normally choose in my weekly glitzpick. But…this beaded bib with 24 karot yellow gold plating was just too unique to pass-up, and I couldn’t wait to show it off to every summer bride out there (especially those looking to add a magnificent statement piece to your wedding day attire). Wouldn’t this necklace be a perfect compliment to a Santa Barbara Mediterranean-style wedding? You could even pair this with a long black beach dress, and wear it to dinner on your honeymoon. Ole’! Get yours, here, and don’t forget to visit StellinaStellina later today for my Santa Barbara Chic glitzpick inspired-inspiration board.

I simply adore these red shoes with a smattering of polka dots. So freaking adorable. The shoes I believe are Marc Jacob and the gorgeous photo is by Belathée.

Inspiration Board #48: Strawberry Fields

Monday, April 26th, 2010

I love the idea of using strawberries to anchor the event design for a wedding. I mean who doesn’t like strawberries? I picture this wedding taking place at a charming B & B. The wedding would be small and intimate and there would be loads of bubbly and delicious strawberries to snack on. Local, organic food would make up the rest of the menu and be served picnic style, all on a warm spring day.

Spain

Spain was so awesome and endless inspiring. I was so excited to see the jewel of Moorish architecture, the Alhambra. I took this photo of the wall looking up to the ceiling.

spain9

Every surface of this Moorish palace is intricately decorated with the most gorgeous geometric patterns in carved plaster and tile work.

spain10

I took so many photos but, I still don’t think I captured even 10% of the detail.

spain8

Can you believe this star dome? It didn’t even look real in person. So gorgeous!

spain6

I also visited the amazing Mesquita in Cordoba.

spain11

The pillars and striped arches make you feel like your wondering through a forest of trees.

spain3

Moorish architecture uses a lot of water features to reflect there beautiful buildings. I captured this image of the Alcazar in Sevilla. Can you tell I was an Art History major?

spain5

I also loved seeing La Sagrada Familia by Gaudi in Barcelona. Its under heavy, heavy construction (surprise!) but you could still see how Gothic architecture and Gaudi’s organic aesthetic met and blended so perfectly into the form of this building.

spain7

And of course, the iconic leaned walkways of Park Guell also by Gaudi.

spain2

Ah yes, and then there was the food. One of my favorite tapas was a tomato spread with jamon and drizzled with olive oil. It was so nice to get away, but I am very happy to be home. Hope you all have a fabulous weekend, posts will return to normal next week!

I’ll be there through mid-April and then I’m onto the fabulous B-List in Washington DC. I’ll be checking email pretty regularly, but you can always email Ms. Cynthia if you need something right away. Blog posts will be light while I’m away, but there will be plenty of pretty photos when I return.

Anthropologie Wedding- The Drinks

I love designing the food and beverage as much as the tablescape (it must be those 5 years working for catering companies and creating menus!).

©kirstenellis046

SBB Catering was kind enough to create a geranium lemonade and lavender iced tea which would be awesome for welcome drinks.

©kirstenellis195

I found these paper straws online and I fell in love with them. They’re so cool and vintage!

©kirstenellis246

I found this wood Coca Cola crate at a vintage salvage store. I absolutely love the texture of the wood and the old metal brackets.

Who wouldn’t want a cold coke on a hot day?

I love this adorable photo with the flower girls! How cute are they!?!
