Decor Ideas: Moss

Thursday, January 31st, 2008

Mood Moss (left) and Reindeer Moss (right) both make great tabletop decor either as an addition to flowers or in place of flowers. I’ve used reindeer moss as a table runner for a Christmas Eve event and then tucked in gold ornaments. Simple, but dramatic and rich to the eye. More importantly, it comes in a range of hues from dark green, to lime green, I’ve even seen it in cherry red and bright yellow.

And over at Martha Stewart Weddings, Mood Moss is used in simple white bowls for a wedding. The effect is clean, modern and undeniably chic. Ask you florist about either option- though it should be noted some mosses have a distinctive smell and can be quite messy if not used correctly.

I love, love this site. They have a great selection of vases from intricate metal urns to simple bamboo cylinders, to candles, rocks, feathers, napkin rings (I particularly like the square napkin ring), and so on. The best part? The prices are super reasonable. Happy shopping!

Doilies? Yes, Doilies

Tuesday, January 29th, 2008

Lately, I’ve been noticing a lot of lace details in weddings (see the post on designsponge) and I think doilies could be a cheap and easy way to get a lace feel without the cost. I love the idea of cutting sections out and affixing it to brightly colored favor boxes or maybe even wrapping around votives or hurricanes for an updated white winter look. I guess what I’m saying is, don’t discount cheap materials– they could be your ticket to a couture, one of a kind look!

For the sweet tooth: Custom Cookies

Tuesday, January 29th, 2008

A few years ago I ordered these cookies for a corporate event I was planning that needed logo cookies. Let me tell you, these cookies are as tasty as they are pretty. Hand-decorated gingerbread cookies, you can get them customizes with your monogram or whatever you desire. Each cookie comes in a cellophane bag tied with a coordinating grosgrain ribbon. I would order these at least 8 weeks in advance of your event (they are shipping from Canada after all).
They sent me a whole box of cookies for the holidays and I ate them all!

Vineyard Wedding Favor

Tuesday, January 29th, 2008

I went to the Doubletree bridal show yesterday and ran across this cute favor idea from Santa Barbra Wine Corks. They are wine corks that have the couples names and wedding date inscribed on they top. At only $3.70 each they are an economical and fun idea. Plus, they come prepackaged in cute little boxes which means they could double as place cards. Fun!

And Over at Designsponge

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

One of my favorite blogs, designsponge, recently posted two ideas that I think would work really well for weddings. The first, is a sheer fabric ribbon and the leather strip around pillar candles. The look is really simple and easy to personalize. I love the contrasting texture of the sheer ribbon versus the leather– the feel is feminine but not to, to feminine. Likewise, the stiff lace lanterns would be fun to replicate for ceremony decor.

Spotlight: Style Me Pretty Blog & Inspiration Boards

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

Style Me Pretty is a blog all about wedding and event design. They have an on going contest for the best inspiration boards for wedding design.

I love the idea of inspiration board because it really forces you to focus on what you want which make decisions a lot easier down the road. Not to mention, it makes my life a lot easier as a planner when a bride can give me multiple pictures for reference. That way as we design and develop the “look,” we can always refer back to the board and make sure all the details have the same tone as the original concept.

I love this aqua and red board! A color scheme that was featured in Martha Stewart weddings two years ago, I love how the warm tone of the red plays against the cool aqua tones– the colors just pop together.

Oh My God Shoes!

Kate Spade is one of my favorites and these shoes totally embody her design style: classic, modern and chic. I want them!

So Over It: Cupcake Tiers

Tuesday, November 13th, 2007

Wedding cake, the traditional dessert option was updated into cupcake tiers back in 2005. Now, two years later, they’re everywhere and I am so over it! Similarly, candy stations became popular last year which are another fun alternative, but they too are getting over used. Aren’t there any other dessert options out there?!?

All the Colors of the Rainbow

Tuesday, November 13th, 2007

Town and Country Event Rentals has just added colored chivari chairs for rental. These are a great alternative to the traditional gold chivari chair and will certainly add a pop of unexpected color to any event. I would love to use the pink chairs for an ultra-girlie bridal shower.

A Day Celebrating Weddings

Tuesday, November 13th, 2007

Your Wedding Day magazine put on a fantastic wedding show yesterday for Santa Barbara weddings. Vendors both from LA and Santa Barbara displayed their wares and offered some unusual and fun decor ideas. I particularly loved the orange and white table with the crystal trees. I love mixing modern and natural elements and this is a great example of the graphic impact this combination can have. Enjoy!
